Tasting Notes: Coconut, caramel, tropical, citrus
Origin: Huila, Colombia
Varietal: Purple Caturra
Process: Coconut co-fermented and washed
About: Rodrigo Sanchez Valencia's family farm, Finca Monteblanco, is located in San Adolfo, Colombia. Since 2002, Rodrigo has worked to produce high-quality coffee consistently by exploring his grandfather’s heritage coffee varieties, like Purple Caturra.
Today, Rodrigo and his wife, Claudia Samboni, along with their farm manager and team, have achieved consistent quality through rigorous monitoring and management. The farm produces both award-winning microlots and delicious coffees for everyday enjoyment.
For this specific coffee, a unique "Coconut Lemonade" co-fermentation process was used. First, a custom fermentation culture was created from the farm’s own Purple Caturra coffee cherries, then fed with coconut and citrus juice to enhance its flavor. After 190 hours, this culture was added to the freshly pulped coffee and fermented for another 150 hours. The coffee was then dried for a total of 17-21 days, first in the sun and then in the shade, to reach the perfect humidity level.
We've found that this coffee holds up to every brew method and is extremely expressive in the coconut and caramel flavors. While we love this coffee on its own, this is a really fun one to blend with other coffees you may have to give it a tropical spin. Get wild with it!
